What happened last week
I spent my last week mostly catching up and resting after WordCamp Gliwice. I’m getting too old not to have a weekend. Still, it was worth it. In the links below, you’ll find my review of how amazing the event was.
Tomorrow I’m going to Warsaw to learn something at Code Europe. So, if you’re in Warsaw - I’m happy to go and grab some coffee.
Like I mentioned last week, I got my dream bike, and I already had a chance to give it a spin.

I was at WordCamp Gliwice 2023 — Maciek Palmowski
WordCamp Gliwice was amazing, and the organizers did whatever possible to make this event a great experience. I’m really happy to be there and that I could help them in some way with my talk and workshops.
State of Node.js Performance 2023 — Rafael Gonzaga
Rafael compared the Node speed of different operations in Node 16, 18, and 20. In most cases, the results are very clear, and if you still don’t see the need for upgrading your Node version, maybe those benchmarks will change your mind.
Evolving with Our Tools: The Continued Evolution of Static Site Generators — Sean C Davis
I really agree with Sean here. And I really agree with the “don’t get distracted” part. Overall the JS world is quite noisy, and it’s easy to lose focus instead of focusing on our static website.
The problem with sticky menus and what to do instead — Adam Silver
Adam points out all the problems with sticky menus. And while I agree with them, I still think that sticky menus (especially the ones that hide on scrolling down) are really useful and make it easier to navigate.
The Best of Both Worlds: Progressive Enhanced Hybrid Applications — Markus Oberlehner
This is something totally new I learned last week. Markus explains how PEHAs can solve most of the problems that MPA and SPA apps have. This is something I have to dig deeper into.
My Struggle With Remix — Artem Zakharchenko
I didn’t have time to dive into Remix yet, but Artem had, and he shared some reasons why he didn’t like it that much. Worth reading.
How To Deal With Big Tooling Upgrades In Large Organizations — Joran Quinten
Upgrading tooling ain’t fun. There are so many things that can break. Joran described how it looked in his company when they had to upgrade from Vue 2 to 3 and the consequences of this change.
How to register WordPress hooks with PHP attributes: A step-by-step guide — Marcus Kober
Marcus wrote an amazing guide about WordPress, hooks, and how we can register hooks in WP.
