What happened last week
A bit later this week, but we’re having a small hospital at home and I just didn’t have enough strength to write.
Because of those reasons, I don’t have much to share as we spent this time just trying to get better and picking up some final presents.
I had some ambitious plans about writing some documentation for Astro, but in the end, I failed miserably. Although I still hope I will work on it at the beginning of next year.
Oh and Merry Christmas everyone. Have a great time, rest a bit, and eat a bit too much. I hope you’ll get some wonderful gifts🎄
Interesting links
HTML: The Bad Parts — Mayank
A really cool article about some poorly designed HTML elements. In most cases HTML, by default, is accessible. But it turns out that some elements aren’t that good. Worth reading - I never knew that “select multiple” can be so problematic.
Examples of Great URL Design — Jim Nielsen
Huge kudos to Jim for writing such an interesting post about URL design. Let’s be honest - it’s not the most fascinating topic out there, but he showed some great examples.
Why I use Astro — Flavio Copes
Flavio shares why he uses Astro. I feel that I could copy this article and use those arguments for why I use Astro. It’s simple, it has a great DX and it generates light websites - that is all I need most of the time.
Statamic for Laravel devs — Marty Friedel
Marty gave a great talk during Laravel AU 2023. He shows all the reasons why you should give Statamic a try.
Reduce font-related CLS in your Astro projects with Fontaine — John Eatmon
If you are using custom fonts on your website, you know that sometimes using font-display swap creates a bit of a shift. It can be quite annoying, but I always thought that’s just the way it is and there’s nothing we can do about it. So, it turns out that thanks to Fontaine we can solve this problem.
Are remote workers more productive? That’s the wrong question — Eira May
Another voice in the discussion about working from home vs returning to the office. I do agree with Eira’s take that it’s not just about productivity. Personally, I prefer to be happy at the place where I work. When I’m happy, I’m automatically more motivated.
A Headless CMS is Bullshit for your developer blog — Jakob Schwanenberg
I totally agree with Jakob’s take on this. Headless CMS can be a great solution in some cases. It doesn’t mean that we should stick them everywhere just for the sake of using them.
