What happened last week
I’m a bit late with this issue, but it was a busy week :) A lot of cool stuff is happening at work as we prepare for Nahamcon. If you are into security, I highly recommend this conference.
Also, I had a chance to stream with Tim Benniks about using WordPress with HygraphCMS. I highly recommend watching this as their remote sources are very interesting and practical. Check the link below.
The CMS squad reached 130+ members - that’s amazing.
And we managed to wrap up WordCamp Gliwice - apart from minor hiccups - it went great. Attendees were really happy and nothing exploded. Overall a success.
And, I got my portrait (with autographs) - it’s huge 🙃

Combining WordPress with Headless CMS — Tim Benniks
I had loads of fun streaming this together with Tim. WordPress and Hygraph work really well together. Also, kudos to Hygraph for the collaboration approach instead of going with the typical “WP Sucks” way. I hope, that we’ll record something more about WordPress soon.
Build Fast, Ship Faster with Studio
Studio by WordPress.com finally got released. I had a chance to talk with the creators a few weeks ago and I was shocked with Studio. I suspected to get yet another LAMP/WAMP/MAMP, and they used WordPress Playground in the background to power this. While this will have some limitations, I’m really interested in how it will grow over time.
Detect PHP security vulnerabilities with Psalm — Matt Brown
It’s not the newest article, but I just learned about it and decided to share it with you. I didn’t know that Psalm has an option to detect vulnerabilities in your PHP code. It focuses mostly on SQL Injections and XSS. According to Patchstack’s security report, those two were responsible for 58% of vulnerabilities in the WP ecosystem.
How To Work With GraphQL In WordPress In 2024 — Leonardo Losoviz
Leonardo published a great article explaining the state of headless WP and the role of GraphQL in it. Just give it a read, because Leo is always spot on.
Why PHP Usage Has Declined by 40% in Just Over 2 Years — Richard MacManus
It seems that PHP is dying (again, like every year). However, there are two interesting findings here:
perceiving WP as JS first - we’re getting there, but A8C has done a lot for this to happen. PHP and JS development in WP is treated in such a different way. WP is still using a very legacy approach to PHP while using modern JS. And the truth is - WP needs a lot of changes on the PHP side.
PHP Foundation trying to make PHP look better. I think that they should start taking lessons from Laravel. Laravel is the cool PHP kid and when it comes to marketing they are amazing.
Astro is pretty cool — Alicia Sykes
Alicia listed why she enjoys working with Astro so much. I just want to add that I agree with every point she listed.
MetalliCSS — Mikael Åsbjørnsson-Stensland
This is so useless - I love it with all my heart. If you ever dreamed about adding a more metallic look to your website - that’s a solution for you.
