What happened last week
We had a long weekend here in Poland, so I decided to chill the previous week, but I’m back - full of exciting news.
I had a weird adventure with the KongresJS Meetup that was supposed to happen on the 6th of May. A week earlier I wanted to check exactly when my talk is happening. I was surprised to see that the event page is gone. I haven’t received any email - nothing. Finally, after asking the organizers on Twitter - I officially learned that the event was canceled. Still, I’m a bit frustrated because:
one of the reasons I’m now in Trójmiasto is this event (and more, but I could pick different dates)
I was a speaker, yet I haven’t received any “sorry”
On the flip side - WordUp Trójmiasto is still happening and it will be a blast :)
I’m really excited about how my CMS Squad is growing - 223 people. I never expected this to grow that quickly.
And I mentioned the long weekend in Poland - I’m extra happy about it because my son wants to ride in his bicycle carrier again. So, we’re all cycling together again.

I made a Fallout inspired RPG game in EXCEL — Dynamic Pear
This is amazing - he’s making those games in Excel. The last place that you would use for making games. It’s crazy and that’s why I recommend going trough his videos, because Fallout is not the only game.
Social media isn’t social anymore — Lesley Sim
Lesley is absolutely right. All the social media aren’t social anymore - they are mostly content platforms. Also, again it’s a sign that we as creators should focus more on building our communities through our blogs or newsletters.
An amazing site that shows how much the web would miss if not for women engineers and developers. So every time you hear someone making dumb comments about women in tech, you should show this website to that person.
PHP Doesn't Suck Anymore — DeveloperJoy
PHP developers are used to hearing “PHP sucks” or “PHP dead” for many years. DeveloperJoy lists why PHP is a mature programming language that you should use.
Portable Server Rendered Web Components with Enhance SSR — Ryan Bethel
Web Components in WordPress? Why not. It’s quite simple to do using Enhance. There is even a simple Gutenberg Block demo.
How to do ISR and advanced caching with Astro — Matt Kane
Incremental static rendering is a powerful feature, especially if your website is big, and rebuilding it every time would be a pain. Thanks to Netlify it’s easy to implement and right now I’m considering trying it out on a site or two.
How refactoring almost ruined my marriage — Anton Zaides
A great article explaining why refactoring might not always be the best idea. Anton shows, based on his parent’s yard example - why refactoring (in some situations) might cause more problems. Of course, it’s not that we shouldn’t refactor - we just have to find the right balance.
Most mockups are boring and unrealistic. Fockups are the opposite of this. Browsing on the toilet? Check. Ugly billboard near the highway? Check. A torn poster near the construction site? Also, check.
So, it turns out there’s a library for controlling sex toys written in Rust. There are also many add-ons for games like Counter Strike that reward you with a nice vibration for each kill. Amazing times we are living in.
