What happened last week
Last week I visited Berlin and I spoke at the International PHP Conference there. My topic was “Give WordPress a Try - it’s not as bad as might think”. I won’t lie - I was a bit scared. I was speaking in front of many amazing PHP developers about WordPress.
I was surprised in a few ways:
quite a lot of people came to listen to my talk
there were interesting questions
the talk was ranked well
This means, that I'll probably try to submit this talk to other conferences - it turns out that people are interested in what is happening in the WP ecosystem.
Apart from that - I celebrated my 39th birthday during the conference. It’s a weird feeling, to realize that you already lived half of your life. On the other hand - those are the moments when you have to realize that it’s important to carefully pick your battles.
On the flip side - I’m really happy with the beautiful gift I got from my wife :)

Give WordPress a try - it's not as bad as you think — Maciek Palmowski
I created an article based on the talk I gave at the IPC Belin. BTW - if you can think of any other selling points for developers from outside of our bubble, please share them.
Why We Don't Have a Laravel For JavaScript... Yet — Vince Canger
There were a lot of discussions about different frameworks last week. But this part is in my opinion the most interesting. Why JS doesn’t have a full-blown framework like PHP and Ruby does? And I agree with Vince, that while you might not need a framework, at some point, with a more complicated app and bigger team, having a well-documented framework underneath can be a huge advantage.
Teaser: Vladimir vs Hosting Industry — Vladimir Smitka
Vladimir decided to check how secure different server control panels are and perform an unauthorized modification of one site on the server from another controlled site, essentially breaking site isolation. The results are quite scary. He managed to do this 11 times (and he tested 12 solutions).
Astro Actions (First Look!) — Chris Pennington
Astro released Server Actions (experimental). It helps write and run backend functions from anywhere. Worth checking out if you are using Astro for more complicated things.
Gato GraphQL YT channel - Leo Losoviz
Gato GraphQL is a great alternative to WPGraphQL. Leo decided to launch a YT with useful tutorials on how to use Gato GraphQL.
How to build a writing habit — Peter Suhm
A really great article about writing. A lot of great tips inside. If you want to learn to write constantly, you’ll probably learn a thing or two from this.
Optimizing PHP applications for performance — Mateus Guimarães
Mateus explains how changes in server configuration can improve your app performance drastically(and lower the cost).
Matcha.css — Simon Lecoq
A cool CSS library that. It’s designed to style HTML elements, so it’s great for prototyping or simple pages.
